Da Nang is a city of just over 1 million, which sits on the coast and is cut in half by the Han River. Many of the city’s most attractive spots (nicest hotels, most scenic restaurants) are located along the Han River Front area. The river is spanned by several modern and unique bridges, and is especially beautiful to visit at night, when the bridges are lit up in an impressive display of color.
Da Nang, Vietnam is home to some of Vietnam’s most interesting museums. I’ve chosen three of the best museums in the city. Although Hanoi is Vietnam’s capital city, the larger Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) is home to some of the country’s best museums. Though most of the museums in the city are dedicated to Vietnam’s independence struggles and the Vietnam War, there are a number of fine art and culture museums as well.
After witnessing the crazy traffic and crowds around Hoan Kiem Lake all week, our first weekend in Hanoi , Vietnam surprised us by how peaceful and lovely this area could be without the hustling and bustling of the weekday traffic.
The most interesting attraction in all of Saigon? Take a self-guided tour of Independence Palace (now re-named Reunification Palace), the former residence and seat of power for the South Vietnamese President and a relic of the wild glory days of 1960’s South Vietnam. If you see nothing else in Saigon, you can’t miss a visit to the Independence Palace Museum.
The Saigon Museum of Fine Arts has an impressive collection, but the building itself is something of a work of art as well.
Visit the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Gardens, once considered to be the pearl of Indochina. Vietnam’s largest zoo dates back to 1865, and is a great place to spend a day in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City).
Nha Trang is a resort town located on Vietnam’s south-central coast. Though the city is popular with visitors for its Vinpearl Land amusement park and resort, there are tons of free and budget-friendly attractions within the city too.
